Capt. Max · St. Lawrence River

I'm Captain Max — welcome aboard Topwater Safari. The St. Lawrence is arguably the best smallmouth fishery on the planet, but the river holds way more than that. We chase trophy smallmouth and largemouth, sure, and northern pike, bowfin, walleye, yellow perch, and bluegill are all in play. Between the crystal-clear water and the scenery, every trip is a visual feast.

You'll fish from a brand-new 2025 Xpress X21, fully rigged. I've equipped it with the largest LiveScope screen on the market, so we'll watch fish interact with our baits in real time — often spotting them from 100 feet away before they know we're there. We also do plenty of old-school sight fishing: picking off fish roaming the flats or tucked against the boulders. All high-end rods, reels, and the latest techniques are included.

At 27 I'm on the younger side of guides, and that means high energy and a modern approach to every trip. I love teaching the why behind the bite, and there's nothing better than seeing a kid hook into a St. Lawrence giant. Hope to fish with y'all soon.
